Blockchain in Manufacturing (Basic)

Blockchain and related distributed ledger technologies have the potential to disrupt the industrial sector. While this development can be challenging for established players, it also offers new opportunities to innovate processes and develop new business models.

The course provides an introduction to blockchain and related distributed ledger technologies (DLT), both from theoretical and practical perspectives. Building on an understanding of the core technology, current developments, use cases and trends in the industrial sector are discussed. The main focus is on knowledge transfer and consists of two online sessions in which participants will learn about and discuss core concepts as well as use cases of the technology.

In this introductory Blockchain in Manufacturing online training, participants will gain a basic understanding of blockchain technology from a technological as well as business perspective including:

  • the basic working principles of blockchain
  • the main blockchain protocols and their characteristics
  • current and future applications of the technology in the industrial sector

The training programme will include the following topics:

Session 1: Technology Basics

  • Introduction to blockchain
  • Core technological concepts
  • Overview extended features

Session 2: Use Cases

  • Use case overview with a focus on manufacturing and related industries
  • Current trends in blockchain from a business perspective

The Blockchain in Manufacturing (Basic) online training is created for managers and managing engineers, from manufacturing and related industries with a business or technical background with a sound understanding of blockchain technology, who are interested in the potential of applying blockchain in their industry. Participants should have a few years of experience in their industry and be proficient in English.

Duration: This training consists of two sessions each taking place online via Zoom or MS Teams from 14:00 – 18:00h CEST, with a short break at 15:45h. The participation links will be provided after the purchase and before the course.

Certification: Upon completion of the online training, participants will receive a Certificate of attendance.

The Center’s mission is to be the one-stop-shop Austrian Research Center for Blockchain (and related) technologies to be applied in industrial applications like industry 4.0 / IoT as well as financial, energy, logistics, government and administrative applications.

Programme

The programme of our Blockchain in Manufacturing (Basic) online training includes the following topics:

Session 1: Technology Basics

  • Introduction to blockchain
  • Core technological concepts
  • Overview extended features

Session 1 covers the core technology. A step-by-step discussion on how core blockchain protocols work forms the basis for introducing to the cryptographic foundations, data structures and basic consensus mechanisms. Advantages and drawbacks are discussed. Additionally, an overview of advanced concepts is given.

Session 2: Use Cases

  • Use case overview with focus on manufacturing and related industries
  • Current trends in blockchain from a business perspective

Session 2 will give an overview of use cases of blockchain technology with a special focus on applications in manufacturing and industry. We will also discuss current trends and potential future developments in the field.

Lecturers

 

Stefan Craß is a senior researcher and area manager at ABC Research. Previously, he worked as a research assistant at the Technical University Vienna (TU Wien). His research interests include blockchain technologies and applications but also coordination models, middleware architectures, modelling languages, security, and design patterns.

 

 

 

Vinzenz Treytl is a senior researcher and area manager at ABC Research. His research interests include blockchain-based business processes and business models, as well as the economic impact triggered by distributed ledger technology/blockchain. Vinzenz also works as a lecturer at the WU Vienna Institute for Entrepreneurship and Innovation.
