Blockchain and related distributed ledger technologies have the potential to disrupt the industrial sector. While this development can be challenging for established players, it also offers new opportunities to innovate processes and develop new business models.

Building on participants’ pre-existing knowledge of blockchain technology and its applications, the course aims at designing and conceptualizing blockchain-based solutions for concrete problems in the industrial sector from a technical as well as business perspective.

The course is focused on knowledge application and consists of two online sessions where participants will design and discuss blockchain-based solutions under the guidance of the lecturers.

In this advanced Blockchain in Manufacturing (Advanced) online training, participants will gain working knowledge on the application of blockchain technology in the industry including:

  • design considerations for use cases incl. legal considerations
  • evaluation of use cases
  • practical application of pre-existing knowledge.

The training programme will include two sessions with the following topics:

Session 1: Design Considerations

  • Conceptual use case design
  • Technology selection

In Session 1, participants will form project teams in order to create blockchain-based solutions for concrete problems and challenges in manufacturing and industry. Project work continues throughout Session 2.

Session 2: Implementation Considerations

  • Requirement analysis
  • Technology choice
  • Architecture Design

During their mini-project, teams will specify and sharpen their understanding of a given challenge and develop blockchain-based solutions. Once a clear picture for the solutions emerges, first conceptual steps towards implementation are conducted. This includes a first selection of technologies, requirements analysis and architectural design of the solution. Intermediate results are discussed in the whole course to get feedback.

The Blockchain in Manufacturing (Level 3 – Advanced) online training is created for managers and managing engineers, from manufacturing and related industries with a business or technical background, interested in building a basic knowledge of blockchain technology. Participants should have a few years of experience in their industry and be proficient in English.

Prerequisite: To be able to follow the programme of the Blockchain in Manufacturing (Advanced) training, a successful completion of Blockchain in Manufacturing (Intermediate) is required.
